On January 11, SemegaChange partnered with the Women’s Leadership Series to host its inaugural Women’s Leadership Summit, “Breaking Barriers: Women Transforming Industries,” in Dar Es Salaam. The Summit aimed to provide young women with the necessary skills and confidence to become leaders and changemakers across Tanzania and other parts of the world.
The event celebrated the success of women across different sectors, aiming to inspire women to enter and thrive in these spaces. Tanzania’s Minister of National Service and Defense, Stergomena Lawrence Tax, provided the keynote speech for the event. Founder of the Women’s Leadership Series, Maura Mgaya, said that the summit shed light on the disparities of women in these spaces and hoped to inspire young attendees.
“Our intention for the Women’s Leadership Summit was to plant seeds that would blossom into opportunity [and] that a motivational speech would grow into self-confidence, a résumé would lead to an interview, and the letters to our future selves would turn into intentional steps forward,” Mgaya said.
Over one hundred people attended the summit, learning from the esteemed panelists, taking away and leaving with the confidence to become changemakers in their professional careers.
SemegaChange CEO Niouma Semega said that the event accomplished its goals of encouraging young women to pursue their passions and furnishing them with the resources to do so.
“This event has been a year in the making, and I am so thrilled it turned out as a success,” Semega said. “Alongside the moving keynote, we hosted resume and career readiness workshops and other tools to equip these young Tanzanian women with the tools they need to become effective leaders of tomorrow.”
SemegaChange plans to collaborate with the Women’s Leadership Series to continue inspiring young women in their professional interests.
